Desperate Times...

...Desperate Measures!!

Jack and Belle are outside just about everyday that it isn't raining playing, they need warm stuff.

After spending far too much time scouring shops for nice warm practical jumpers for my kids and finding nothing much at all (just about everything has zips, hoods or are so thin they are not worth the bother and shouldn't be classed as winter wear!). I got a bit desperate and decided to break out the sewing machine and have a go at something myself. After breaking a needle on the sewing machine and just 1/4 of a way through overlocking around the neck I broke a needle on the overlocker too, I got Jacks one finished. Doesn't look too bad at all. Just have to do Belle's one now - after going shopping for a overlocker needle that is!

Sketchbook Scrapbook Olympics

This is a layout I have done for Sketchbooks Warm up for their Scrapbook Olympics. I had to choose a country and make a layout about me using only those colours - I chose United Arab Emirates which is Black, White, Red and Green. This is a photo of me and my lovely part arab horse Katie (suppose it is quite fitting I chose UAE for her breed). She is still in NZ with a friend of mine - miss riding her sooooo much! Anyway I have some other homework I need to complete so I best get into that before it gets too late!

Scrapbooking Memories Debut

Picked up my copy of Scrapbooking Memories from the newsagency today - couldn't wait anymore for the comp copy (which will probably arrive tomorrow now)!
So cool to have another page published! Next one will only be published in the December issue of Scrapbook Creations.

Boys!!!

Well my darling little man got into my scraproom today while I was making dinner. He found my buttons and distributed them around liberally and as you can see he got hold of my ink pad and had a wee taste test!! (Luckily it wasn't Staz-On!). He dribbles no end and has a cold so it all looks a lot worse than it was! Straight into the shower it was for him.
I have been working on a few layouts the last couple of days but I am more feeling like catching up with sleep since both kids have been keeping me awake at night with their respective coughing fits! Looks like I have to do a quick one for the Sketchbook Olympics tonight/tomorrow. I love the challenges that they have over there.

Scrap Savvy CyberCrop Challenge 2

This is my layout for Challenge two of the Scrap Savvy cybercrop. Had to use Orange, Red, Blue and Green on the layout with a little black and white. They are colours I probably would normally avoid all together. I tried a few new things like ink splatters, shading transparency shapes. And felt, I haven't used that before. The paper is all Kaisercraft. Don't know if I will get any of the other challenges done, I am feeling a bit rubbish with a sore throat and aching neck and back. Might just spend the evening in front of the fire! TFL Kim

Its Out!!!

I went to Safeway today hoping that issue 57 of Scrapbook Creations was out (seems to get their the earliest of anywhere around here). It was there!! I was thinking "Please be in there, please be in there and not have been ditched at the last moment!" :-(. And YAY on page 93 in the Pearls Gallery is my layout - which it seems like I did ages and ages ago! First time ever published - first hurdle down! Must keep going and keep improving!

On another note, last night I was very naughty and place a big order with Two Peas. They have some awesome products that you don't get here (yet)! Aus dollar is so strong it is almost worth it as paper is a lot cheaper. Probably made up for it in postage but hopefully I can make some pretty funky layouts with what I ordered. It would be a good idea to get a couple of scrapbooking buddies together - do an order and share the cost of shipping - I have a link on the lower left hand side of my blog.

I also did some shopping at Scrapbook Savvy yesterday and used up my $25 voucher I got for winning the Monthly sketch challenge (see scrapbook-savvy-sketch-challenge).

So a published layout and some retail therapy, I am just happy as!

Kim

Ps. More good news - I have just been to Scrap Therapy and I won a $15 voucher there for a layout that I did in their cybercrop last weekend - thanks heaps to those that voted for my layout. I haven't actually put it on my blog yet as I was going to add some more journalling. But here it is anyway. This is a picture of my Aunt that died young so we never knew her but I don't want her to be forgotten - I want my kids to know that my dad had a sister.
Also my DD Ysabelle won a prize for her entry in the kids challenge - way to go Belle you did an awesome job! This is her layout Baby Belle. She is going to be so excited when she gets home from school and I tell her the news!

Sketchbook Celebrity Challenge - Becky Higgins

The current celebrity challenge at the Sketchbook has been set by Becky Higgins. The challenge is to create a work of art for your home (you could base it on an interpretation of a sketch that Becky provided if you wanted). This was quite fun to do. I used a 20" x 16" canvas, Fiskars "Ink by Steph" (think it is the "Charmed" range), black acrylic paint, puff paint (to get texture under black paint), ink, pen, and Modge Podge.

I remember in Art History at school studying some of the various ancient "Venus" figurines that have been found. They have always fascinated me, I think they are gorgeous. Been wanting to do a work of art including them for years but have never got around to it.

Anyway it is something a bit different! TFL.

Scrap Therapy Shimano's Blind Scrapping Challenge -

This is my layout for the blind scrapping challenge at Scrap Therapy last night. I got a bit stuck because I had put my photo too close to one side so the instructions had to be adapted a little bit. But anyway got it done so thats okay.

Scrap Therapy Junior Cybercrop Challenge

This is a layout that Ysabelle did for the Cybercrop Junior Challenge this weekend at Scrap Therapy. She did really well with it - chose her pink flowers and bling (of course they were the most important must haves!).

The Sketchbook Friday Night Challenge

The Sketchbook has a challenge every Friday night. This week the challenge was set by Lusi Austin to do a layout in 15 minutes using patterned paper, a picture 5x7 size or larger, diecuts, doodling, and handwritten journalling. I rather enjoyed doing this challenge, it was good to have the time constraint and just get it done. This challenge is due this Sunday midnight for anyone who is willing to take it on (and yes they do accept international entries!).

Kiwi Jack Me Up

This is my layout for the August Kiwi Jack Me Up challenge. It is an older picture of Belle that I have been wanting to scrap for a while now and just the challenge layout has a single photo so I decided that it was the perfect opportunity to tackle it.

Scrap Therapy Cybercrop on now

Scrap Therapy has fantastic cybercrop on this weekend - all the challenges are up so go to their forum and get in the running to win some vouchers to build up your stash and make yourself some fantastic layouts in the process. There are 5 challenges in all (including a kids one). Do one or all four and get the kids involved too!
And tomorrow night they are having another Blind Scrapping Challenge. So much to do so little time!!

123 Challenge

The criteria for Augusts 123 Challenge are up so get scrapping and get your entry in for some fantastic prizes by 31/08/2008. The criteria this month is to creat a layout that has the following:

1. Lots of Bling
2. Self Portrait
3. Lots of colour... more than 5

The Sketchbook

The Sketchbook has a special guest Becky Higgins this month for their celebrity challenge - how cool is that for a new site in little old New Zealand! Their challenges are open to international entries so go and have a look. Beckys' challenge is an OTP project and has such potential to have really awesome results - I have so many ideas spinning around my head! Entries are due by Midnight, Sunday 10th August.

Blind Scrapping at Scrap Therapy

This is my layout I did for the blind scrapping challenge that was at Scrap Therapy on Wednesday night. They have another one this weekend which I may have a go at. Kind of puts me out of my comfort zone as I can't think to much - just have to do. Suppose it teaches one to be a bit more spontaneous if nothing else.
And guess what I won a runner up prize for my layout "Just Cute" at the NZ site The Sketchbook! Can't wait to see what Laura sends through. So exciting, love getting presents in the post!
